Logan's CT Scan

One of the steps needed before getting Logan's surgery done is a CT scan. We had it done on Thursday and he did great. They had to sedate him to do the procedure, so he couldn't eat anything after 6am. I woke him up at 5:30 and let him eat a big pancake and eggs breakfast. He was so tired, that he could barely lift the fork, but I didn't want him to have to go all night and day without eating. After the test, he was groggy after waking up, but perked right up when the nurse offered him a lollipop. He became a little loopy as we walked to the car, it was quite entertaining!!

This is why a daughter would be nice! :)

Not again...

Answer most of Tanner's bizarre questions confidently (Ex: Why did Heavenly Father make the sky blue instead of yellow or green? My answer: Because the sun was already yellow and the grass was already green. He was satisfied with that.) 3. go to bed on time

Alright, Nikki...I try to avoid being tagged, so thanks a lot. But I'm afraid if I don't participate I'll have 7 years of bad luck (isn't that how these things work) :)

1.) What I was doing ten years ago: September 1997. I had just graduated from high school and was attending Utah State University. I can't believe it is my ten year reunion this year!

2.) Five years ago: September 2002. Jake had just graduated from BYU and we were trying to figure out a plan B since the Pharmaceutical company Pfizer (who Jake had been hired by) had just froze all hiring and he was without a job. I was reading all the books and watching all the DVD's to make me the perfect new mom. We moved to Vegas and I started my dance studio.

3.) One year ago: September 2006. Jake was on break from school and I was 7 months pregnant with Chase. We were getting ready to move again for the 8th time (since being married)!

4.) Yesterday: September 17, 2007. Jake and I spent the day with the two youngest, while Tanner was in school. We had my Sweet and Sour Chicken for dinner. I taught my Hip Hop Aerobics class, then the Lee's came over for a movie and cookies!

5.) 5 snacks I enjoy: *apples and peanut butter. *fudgecicles. *chips and Jake's guacamole. *homemade banana shakes (I found the recipe in my Spanish textbook sophomore year) *banana bread.

6.) 5 Things I would do if I suddenly had $100 million: *Get out of an apartment! :) *I know this sound cheesy...but Jake and I would put together free dental clinics for children in less fortunate neighborhoods in the U.S. and over seas. *Go on a mission w/ my hubby *Buy a washer and dryer *Send my In-laws and my parents on a dream vacation for all they done for us while we've been 'poor students'.

You mean I get to go to school, too?

Logan started his preschool last week and has been so excited. It's a small co-op that 5 other moms and I do together. We take turns teaching so it's nice for me to be there a few times a month. I was worried how he'd do. I taught the first two days and I signed most of the lesson and instructions for him, but today he was on his own. His in home speech therapy has been fantastic, but I think he's ready for something like this. My little man's growing up!

It's Soccer Season Again!

Tanner had his first game as a "Blue Eagle" (I know eagles aren't blue, but the coach let the kids choose the team name). He was fantastic, my timid Tanner scored 5 goals and we celebrated with Slurpees for the whole family! We are with the same coach as last year, so Tanner is really excited.

My husband tells me that I have a problem saying no, therefore I am the 'Team Mom' this year and I volunteered to make the team banner. I had no idea how to make one. I walked into Home Depot and asked a guy there and he said, "Get some PVC pipe and hang some felt from it." So I did! It kind of reminds me of something from the Homecoming float I helped decorate in High School! :) Next year I'll know better! GO BLUE EAGLES!!

Logan's new ears!

When Logan sees someone singing or dancing on the TV, he knows that there is music, and he puts his ear and hands on the speaker to feel the vibrations. The first time I saw this, it broke my heart.

Many of you have asked about Logan's upcoming surgery for the Cochlear Implants. We are still in the process. It is usually a 8-10 month process that we are trying to do in 3 months! We were hoping to have both ears done simultaneously, but that could postpone the process even longer, because it is harder for the insurance to approve that. So we will probably just do one ear at a time. The longer we wait, the more his speech will be delayed, so we need to get it done as soon as possible. I am very nervous about the surgery and worried how Logan will react. It can't be half bad living in a world of silence! :) They say many children take a long time to adjust to the implants because they don't like all the noise that they are not used to hearing. He was given more powerful hearing aids, while he waits for the surgery, which give him a little bit of sound. He has not enjoyed that too much. The first week of having the new "ears" (that's what we call them) I found them in the garbage 4 different times!

"Mom, I don't want you to worry if I walk on the end of the sidewalk kinda close to the cars. When I was a little boy, you teached me how to be safe, so I don't want you to worry about that, K?"

"Mom, who is our Hero? Who is going to save us from the bad guys? Does SpiderMan or SuperMan live close to us, so that they can be the hero for Los Angeles?"

Yeah for Kindergarten!

So Tanner's big day finally came. The night before we made School Bus cookies and decorated them, then Dad gave him a Blessing so that all would go well with this new adventure in Tanner's life. After I tucked him into bed and left his room, I saw his clothes neatly laid out on the floor. He even has his socks tucked into his shoes.

Nobody was more emotional than Logan. He was losing his best friend and had a hard time holding in the tears. He asked me constantly throughout the day if we could go pick Tanner up. He is slowly trying to adjust, and has discovered that his baby brother can actually be kind of fun to play with.

I challenged Tanner to make a new friend on his first day and he said, "But Mom, what if they don't want to be my friend? I can't say, 'Be my Friend 'cause my mom wants you too'." I guess that's true!

"I want some Hot Stuff, Baby, this Evening..."

I just had to share this with you. This little grandma is so cute, I see her on the playground a lot and she wears this shirt about 3 times a week. It says, "Hot Stuff", the funniest part is that she usually has a 1 year old with her who wears a shirt that says, "It's hard out here for a pimp." I told her one day that I liked her shirt and she didn't speak English, which makes her wearing that shirt more humorous!

We love having Dad home!

It's been so nice to have Jake home more since he's been on a three week break from school. We went out to Griffith Park last week and the boys had a blast. They had a little train ride and horse rides for the boys. The Zoo is also out there. For all you LA-ers, you have to visit, if you haven't already.

I forced my husband to watch the Miss Teen USA pagent with me and after hearing this, he said it was worth it! We watched this over and over again, although I thought it was hilarious, I felt really bad for her.

"I can't, I'm on the ground!"

Cat in the Hat, with Michael Meyers, was on TV the other night, so I recorded it thinking that it would be cute for the kids to watch...well, some parts are a little mature for a 5 and 2 year old. Anyway, Tanner picked up a funny idea from the movie and decided to try it with Logan, who does what ever his older brother tells him to do. He attempted to "hang Logan up" with a hanger, like the Cat does to the babysitter in the movie and when it didn't work, he just hung him up (on their bedroom door), by his shirt. I had sent them to the playroom to play while I did the dishes and when I heard a frightening squeal from Logan, I ran in the room. Tanner had used a chair, propped up on their table to get Logan up there. I wanted so much to take a picture, but I didn't want Tanner to think this was funny. After I calmed Logan down, I preceded to scold Tanner, who clearly knew this was not OK. I told him he was "grounded" for the rest of the night. Later, I heard him yelling out the window to some friends, "I can't play, I'm on the ground" This is the second time he has told his friends that he is "on the ground", I'm sure their parents are beginning to get suspicious!

Sorry, Jaime, you are worse than me! :)

"What time is it, Summer Time..."

Many of you may not be as "with it" as I am, but in case you missed it, the world premiere of High School Musical 2 was on Disney Channel last weekend. Boy, were we excited (and by we, I mean me and Tanner). We had a count down on Tanner's calender and would occasionally turn on the Disney Channel to check out how many hours were left (they kept a running count down in the upper right hand corner the entire day). We gave the boys late naps on Friday so that they could stay awake until 10:00--I know, that's totally against my mommy rules-- and watch the big premiere as a family. We made popcorn and lemonade and ate popsicles. What a party! As you can see, Jake was thrilled to spend his Friday night watching Zac Efron struggle through high school. Thanks Dad for being a good sport. I on the other hand, really enjoyed it. The music and dancing were lots of fun. Good thing I am a fan, because we saved it on out DVR and have watched it several times this week. And if we are not watching it, we are listening to the soundtrack! My favorite song, you ask? "I don't dance"

Tanner's first "Double Date"??

So Kevin Andrus invited Tanner to go to the Dodger game with him and his twin daughters last week. When Tanner found out that I nor Jake would be going with him he said, "Mom, it's kinda like a a two date. One boy and two dates." I said, "You mean, a double date?" "Yeah, a double date!" The twins came to our house for about an hour before the game and I've never seen Tanner act more like his Dad in front of the ladies! He was trying to crack jokes, do silly tricks and brag to them that he was soon to be in Kindergarten. What a show-off! I barely recognized my usually timid son.

The pictures are great. He asked if he could put his arms around the girls in the first picture (what a gentleman) and in the second picture you can see that Logan snuck in and grabbed Bailey's hand. If you look closely, you notice that Tanner is trying to push him away but Bailey is considering his offer. It's already started...my boys are fighting over girls!

I am so sorry the season is over. Good thing I've saved most of the episodes on DVR!! Yeah Sabra, she and Danny were my favorites...Oh, and Neil too!

One of my favorite routines this season...

7 years!!

Today is our seventh anniversary! 3 kids and a few pounds later, we're still having fun! Last night I watched our wedding video and tried to figure out who those people are and how much life has changed since then. It's hard to avoid life's daily distractions and try to bring back that feeling that was felt on that special day. Life has definitely not been smooth sailing for us, but we sure have enjoyed the ride.
I was talking to Tanner about what an anniversary is and that Sunday was mine and Daddy's. I showed him pictures from my wedding album and he said, "I was happy that day. Me and the brothers were happy that day." That statement made the past seven years more worth it! I love you, Jake. No "seven year itch" for me!

Our Couple goals for year 8:
*Spend more time at the temple
*Sit next to each other during church...not separated by three kiddies!
*Get to bed by 10:30

Yeah Beckham!

So Jake leans over to me Tuesday night and says, "You want to go see Beckham tomorrow for our anniversary? I think we can get tickets." Just what I wanted, how did Jake know? :) Well, he lost the bidding war on E-Bay (twice), so we decided to just go down to the stadium and see if there where any good tickets left. We ended up getting front row tickets! It was great to see Beckham score his first goal after coming to the U.S and after seeing him close up...I now have a new obsession with soccer! :) Go Galaxy!

We Love Elder Cory

My brother, Cory, is celebrating his half way mark as a missionary. He is serving in Warsaw, Poland and we couldn't be more proud of him. It has not been easy, but he never murmurs a word of complaint. We just wanted him to know that we love and miss him and are thinking of him, this week especially. Congratulations, Starszy Boyack.
