The 44th President of the United States of America

I stopped today's daily chores and watched as Barack H. Obama became our 44th President. I thought it was a good ceremony and thought President Obama's speech was indeed what Americans were waiting to hear. It was captivating & inspiring.
I did not vote for Obama, in fact I was extremely disappointed and disturbed when he was elected, but I do believe in supporting our government officials regardless.
Tanner watched some of the inauguration during school and when he got home we watched again as Mr. Obama was sworn in and we discussed what it all meant. He heard one of the commentators say, "We are witnessing a great day in history." Tanner asked what that meant and I explained to him that Mr. Obama was our first black president. Tanner then said something that made a lot of sense, "So what? There are black people at school, there are back people at church. Just because he's black that makes him a special president? I don't get it." I loved that! I love that his generation doesn't see color.
I do realize that we witnessed a day that will go down in history, but I hope his presidency becomes less about that and more about what is important. I truly hope that President Obama is able to earn and deserve all of the praise that he has been awarded.
Tonight in our family prayers we prayed for President Obama and members of the cabinet. We prayed that they would serve the American people with dignity, selflessness and integrity.

TANNER: Mom, can you play UNO with me?

MOM: Sure, I need to sit down anyway, Mom's stomach feels a little funny.

TANNER: Mom, isn't that code for 'I have gas'?

It's That Time Again...

It's 12:13 am, 2009 has arrived.
Every new year I look back at how our lives have changed and what new ventures lie ahead. This past year-like all the others- have brought struggles and opportunities for growth. We have been truly blessed and guided by the Lord. We are grateful for good families, amazing friends and our knowledge of the gospel and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you to each one of you that have enriched our lives and may we enjoy another year together.
Happy 2009!
